Test de connaissance du français pour demande d’admission préalable

If you want to register in France for first or second year undergraduate studies or for a school of architecture and you do not have the DELF B2 or DALF diploma, you must take the specific TCF test for the preliminary admission application, called “TCF pour la DAP”.

What does the test include

The TCF DAP is available in camputer-based version.

No prior qualification is required to sit the exam. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Candidates may take the test several times, allowing a minimum of 1 (one) month between two exam sessions.

The TCF evaluate the French skills on a scale with six levels (from A1 to C2) established by the the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR)

The TCF DAP is composed of four modules:

  • Listening: 25 min – 29 questions
  • Reading: 45 min – 29 questions
  • Writing: 60 min – 3 topics
  • Language structures: 15 min – 18 items

An official certificate of results will be delivered to each candidate from 4 to 8 weeks after the test. For each module, the certificate will show the score obtained.

The results are valid for two years.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current restrictions in Nova-Scotia, AF Halifax is closed to the public. For TEF Canada 4 tests (permanent residency): registration on waiting list only. Future test/examination dates will be determined pending the evolution of the current health situation and provincial and national recommendations.

Registration Fees

IMPORTANT

  • A non-refundable $75 fee will be charged in the event of cancellation or rescheduling before the registration deadline.
  • No refund or change of test date will be accepted if received after the registration deadline.
  • In case a candidate is not allowed to enter the exam room (for example a candidate without passport), fees will not be refunded and a new application will be required after one (1) month.
  • Payment must be made in full at the time of registration.
  • No refund or credit will be granted under any circumstances past the aforementioned deadlines, unless Alliance Française has to cancel a session of tests, in which case an alternative exam date will be offered, or a full refund will be granted.
  • An official notification including the tests schedule and a candidate guide will be sent by email to the candidate approximately 5 days before the test.
  • On the day of the exam, candidates must be available all day (8am-6pm).

Choose the right test

Ensure you registration for TCF DAP is best suited to your situation. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she is registered for the appropriate exam. Alliance Française Halifax and its employees cannot be held responsible for the choices made by the candidate. Please refer to the Immigration Service to select the right test.

Ability to read simple sentences written in French.

When signing up for the listening test, candidates understand that they will have to read simple sentences written in French, and certify that they are able to do so.

Computed Based examination (eTCF DAP):Ability to use a computer

In order to take the computer based eTCF DAP reading, listening, writing and language structures tests, you must have basic knowledge of computer skills (read on a screen, use a mouse pad and a key board). If you cannot use a computer (read on a screen, use a mouse and a keyboard), you must request accommodations at the time of registration. Examination day

Candidates must check in with the supervisor of the official centre or the invigilator(s) with their notification of schedule and their valid piece of identification. CANDIDATES WITHOUT VALID IDENTIFICATION WILL BE REFUSED TO ACCESS THE EXAMINATION; NO EXCEPTION WILL BE MADE.

After the identity check, the head of the official centre or the invigilator(s) will direct the candidates to their assigned seats in the examination room.

Exams are camputer-based only. Candidates must leave their piece of ID visibly on the table for the entirety of the test so that identity checks can be performed throughout the test.

During the entire examination, no exits will be permitted, unless in case of emergency or health issue previously informed by the candidate and justified with a medical certificate.

During the entirety of the exams, communication amongst candidates or the outside will not be permitted.

Candidates arriving late will not be allowed in the examination room once the examination has started.

In the event of fraud or misconduct by a candidate (disturbing the examination procedure, communication or attempt to communicate with other candidates or the outside…), candidates expose themselves to immediate removal from the examination room as well as a ban from taking the test for a period that will be determined by the CIEP.

After the test

  • An official certificate of results will be available from 4 to 8 weeks after the test.
  • Alliance Française will contact the candidates as soon as the certificates of results are ready to be picked up in person during our office hours.
  • If you wish to receive your certificate of results by mail, please provide a pre-stamped envelope (31.8 cm x 24.1 cm / 12.5″x9.5″) with your full name, complete address and sufficient postage. Registered mail only (i.e. Priority™ or Xpresspost™). Collection of the certificate of results in person at the Alliance Française office: no return envelope necessary.
  • Please note that the official certificate of results is the only document that can be used for immigration purposes for Canada.
  • No duplicate of the certificate of results will be delivered.
