The new DELF session (Tous publics) will take place from June 3rd to June 8, 2013.

Do you want to test your language level? It’s not too late to get the certification you need! You still have the opportunity to register for the upcoming DELF session (Tous publics) until Friday, May 24, 2013 in the evening. This certification is delivered by the French Ministry of Education and is composed of four tests: oral comprehension and production, written comprehension and production.

And don’t forget the other sessions of the year: another DELF (Tous publics) session will take place from November 18 to 23, 2013 (registration will open on September 30). The DELF Junior session will take place from November 25 to 30, 2013 (registration will open on October 7). The next DELF Prim session will occur from December 2 to 7, 2013 (you will be able to register on October 14).

La nouvelle session d’examen du DELF Tous publics se déroulera du 3 au 8 juin 2013.

Il n’est pas encore trop tard pour vous inscrire à la prochaine session d’examen du DELF Tous publics. La date limite d’inscription est fixée au vendredi 24 mai au soir. Ce diplôme, qui est délivré le Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale en France, vous propose une série de quatre tests qui vous permettent d’officialiser votre niveau de langue : compréhension et expression orales, compréhension et expression écrites.

Enfin, la nouvelle session du DELF Prim est programmée du 2 au 7 décembre 2013 (inscriptions ouvertes à partir du 14 octobre).

Ci-dessus : Les bénévoles récompensés en 2013

Samedi 4 mai à 18 h à l’Hôtel Park Place Ramada Plaza s’est tenue la soirée de reconnaissance des bénévoles, organisée par le Conseil communautaire du Grand-Havre. À l’occasion d’un souper banquet convivial et chaleureux, dix-neuf organismes issus de la communauté francophone de la région se sont rassemblés et ont récompensé le travail de leurs bénévoles : vingt et une personnes au total se sont ainsi vues remettre ce prix par leurs organismes respectifs.

Cette année, le prix Gaston Chagnon 2012-2013, qui a été décerné pour la toute première fois et qui consacre le ou la bénévole de l’année, a été remis à Mme Gail Boyle. Félicitations !

Cette année, l’Alliance Française Halifax a décerné le prix à Mme Diane Kenny, un membre de son Conseil d’Administration qui a fourni un important travail à l’association. Nous tenons donc à la remercier pour ses efforts et le dévouement exemplaire dont elle a fait preuve depuis longtemps.

The 2013 Volunteer Recognition Evening, which was organized by the Conseil communautaire du Grand-Havre, took place on Saturday, May 4 at 6 pm at the Park Place Hotel and Conference Centre, Ramada Plaza. During a friendly diner, nineteen organizations from the French-speaking community gathered and rewarded their volunteers: this year, twenty-one volunteers were awarded.

The 2012-2013 Gaston Chagnon prize, which recognizes the volunteer of the year, was given for the first time to Gail Boyle. Congratulations!

This year, Alliance Française Halifax decided to give the prize to Diane Kenny, a member of its board of directors who worked hard for the association. We would like to thank her for all her efforts and her devotion to Alliance Française Halifax.

On Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1st, come discover French-speaking cultures and practice your French in a fun way!

The new Mini-immersion is coming soon, so come and join us to celebrate the coming of summer in French! We will offer several workshops hosted by the Alliance Française team about a wide range of themes: French cinema, music, cuisine, news from the French-speaking world… there will be something for everybody!

Of course your French experience wouldn’t be complete without French food: a delicious “pause-café” (Boulangerie La Vendéenne – participation: $3) and a typical French buffet (participation: $7) will be served so that we will all be gathering in a friendly environment.

And don’t forget: if you’re a student at Alliance Française Halifax, you will have the opportunity to attend two workshops for free. The others will be charged $15 each.

Les vendredi 31 mai et samedi 1er juin, venez vous plonger dans l’univers des cultures francophones et pratiquez votre français tout en vous amusant !

La nouvelle Mini-immersion arrive à grands pas : venez donc nous rejoindre pour célébrer la venue prochaine de l’été en français ! Plusieurs ateliers animés par l’équipe de l’Alliance Française Halifax vous seront proposés : vous pourrez ainsi choisir parmi un vaste choix de thèmes tels que le cinéma français, la musique, la cuisine ou encore les actualités du monde francophone… Il y en aura pour tous les goûts !

Bien entendu, votre expérience francophone ne serait pas complète sans la fameuse collation à la française : vous pourrez ainsi profiter d’une pause-café (La Boulangerie La Vendéenne – contribution : 3$) et d’un buffet (contribution : 7$), ce qui nous permettra de nous retrouver ensemble dans un esprit convivial et chaleureux !

Et n’oubliez pas : les étudiants de l’Alliance Française Halifax auront la chance de profiter de deux ateliers gratuits (les autres seront au prix de 15$ chacun).

Come and register your child.

Every Saturday morning, children can practice their French in a friendly environment.

« We speak French » (from 10 am to 10:45 am, for the 2-3 years old) is a good way to begin the learning of French: children get the opportunity to have fun and learn in the same time. During an eight week session, your child will be able to get familiar with the French language and improve his/her skills. Venez inscrire vos enfants aux cours proposés par l’Alliance Française Halifax.

Chaque samedi matin, les plus jeunes ont l’opportunité de suivre un enseignement de qualité adapté à leurs attentes.

« We speak French » (de 10 h à 10 h 45, pour les 4-5 ans) est un cours qui permet aux jeunes apprenants de commencer un apprentissage de la langue française de manière agréable, et durant lequel ils pourront s’amuser tout en apprenant. Pendant une session de huit semaines, votre enfant pourra se familiariser avec la langue française et bien sûr faire des progrès considérables. The TCF (or French competency test) is a French test awarded by the French Ministry of Education.

It is a rapid, efficient and simple way to evaluate your knowledge about the French language. It gives you the opportunity to take stock on your French level in the case you want to continue your learning, prove your level for professional needs and show your French skills.

Each one of the competencies (oral expression, written expression, oral and written comprehension) is evaluated by several questions.

At the end of the test you will be given a grade that will attest your level (from A1 – beginner – to C2 – expert -) according to the competency scale established by the CECR. The certification will be valid for two years.

The TCF has been created by the CIEP (Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques). Here is their website where you can find all the details about the test (duration, type of tests etc). Last but not least, the TCF is intended for both teenagers (from 16 years old) and adults. Please note that no certification or diploma are required to pass this test.

The DELF certification is an official certification given by the French Ministry of National Education. It attests the French level of foreign candidates. The different tests evaluate four linguistic abilities: oral comprehension and production, written comprehension and production.

The DELF certification follows the CECR (Cadre Européen Commun de Référence). You can register according to the level you want to get (from A1 to B2).

There is no limit of validity for this certification.

It exists different kinds of DELF certifications which fit every public’s needs:

• The DELF prim is intended for children from 8 to 12 years old who begin their learning of French. The tests are based on the adult version of the certification (only thematic change).

• The DELF junior was created for secondary school children.

• The DELF scolaire aims at giving a certification to teenagers.

• Last but not least, the DELF pro is the professional version of the DELF certification. It is intended for people who want to be promoted or to work in a French speaking environment.

Did you know?

Alliance Française Halifax is accredited by the Educational Ministry of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to be an exam centre.

Each year, Alliance Française Halifax proposes a training for teachers who want to become examiners of the DELF and DALF tests. This year, we are glad to welcome teachers from the Alliance Française of Moncton for this training.

• Le DELF scolaire est quant à lui réservé à un public adolescent scolarisé dans un établissement scolaire public ou privé.

• Enfin, Le DELF pro correspond à la version professionnelle des diplômes DELF. Il s’adresse aux personnes visant une promotion ou une insertion professionnelle en milieu francophone.
